The interior of the house is modern, mainly in hues of grey and aqua, so we were mindful of this when considering materials. Together with the homeowners, we chose a grey travertine and a dark iridescent glass tile for the spa and waterline, with the interior plaster being French Silver. When you use a dark-colored tile on an infinity water feature, the top becomes mirror-like and the reflection creates a living art piece that is ever-changing. This then becomes the focal point both in the outdoor space and also from the home. We also introduced artificial turf into this space and placed climbing vines on a stainless steel grid across from the living area to create interest on the previously empty wall, with landscape lighting to highlight these features. As an added feature to the project, a summer kitchen was installed on the family room side of the courtyard under cover so that it could be used rain or shine.
